A supercapacitor is a high-capacity capacitor with a capacitance value much higher than other capacitors, but with lower voltage limits, that bridges the gap between electrolytic capacitors and rechargeable batteries.

Since 2017, Supercap energy storage solutions have been deployed and tested around the world in some of the most remote and environmentally hostile locations proving out their very strong technical and operational benefits.  ACES recognized the major advancements of this technology and became the sole distributor of Kilowatt Labs supercapacitor energy storage solutions to U.S. FedGov agencies.

Operational Benefits/Telecom

Supercaps are delivering real-world operational value to the Telecom industry where remote cell tower sites are off-grid and are powered by a combination of solar PV panels, generators, and lead-acid batteries. The lead-acid batteries were replaced with Supercaps which significantly reduced generator runtime due to their rapid recharge rate.

One top tier Telecom company is saving over $75k in annual fuel costs at some cell tower sites due to significantly reduced generator runtime.  All sites replacing lead-acid batteries with Supercaps also recognize a 50% reduction in space requirements and zero need for maintenance.  Four other Telecom companies have committed to rolling out Supercaps in 2021.  It is important to note Li-ion batteries are not an option in these remote sites due to fire risks.
